What does the Missouri Council of the Blind do with the money it gets from the thrift store?

- It helps cover the cost of a summer camp. This is where the blind experience many things they
may normally not be able to participate in. Simple things that seem so common, such as singing around
the campfire, canoe riding, miniature golfing, trail walking, hiking, playing card games, true camaraderie
with piers, and communion with nature, are things that many of us take for granted. The MCB helps to
make these experiences available to the blind.
- They sponsor a shorter fall camp doing the same things.
- They use the money for scholarships to help allow visually impaired people to continue
their education.
- They provide money for adaptive technology.
- They provide information on where to turn, how to go about getting help, to help
solve problems that a person may be experiencing.
- They provide a small health benefit available when the member is hospitalized.
- They use it to help promote public awareness, let people know what it is like to
be blind, and what may be done to help prevent blindness.
- They help in providing information on employment and legislation issues.
- They have the Missouri Chronicle magazine available upon request. This publication
informs the blind on issues that effect them and what the local affiliates are doing.
