The purpose of Missouri Council of the Blind shall be to promote the general well-being of our members and legally blind people in Missouri, and to support or participate in other programs promoting the best interests of legally blind people everywhere.
According to the American Foundation for the Blind, in 2010 there were 137,028 Missourians living with vision loss. Missouri is one of only a few states that offer the Blind Pension. This means that the state of Missouri consists of a large percentage of blind citizens that may need assistance at some point in their lives. In response to this ever increasing need, the Missouri Council of the Blind continues to provide assistance throughout the state to its members while also reaching out to other blind citizens. This is where the Missouri Council of the Blind New Image Thrift Store comes in…
The Missouri Council of the Blind New Image Thrift Store is the only thrift store in the entire state of Missouri that supports the Missouri Council of the Blind. Our thrift store not only provides quality products at low prices, but it is also a large fund generator for the Missouri Council of the Blind and its programs. 100% of the proceeds generated from the sale of donated goods stay with the Missouri Council of the Blind! These proceeds help fund programs offered by our organization such as providing financial assistance during emergency situations, health benefits, adaptive technology, scholarships, youth services, summer camp, and legislative training. These programs offered by the Missouri Council of the Blind can really provide a positive impact in a blinded individual’s life by providing the tools necessary for success!
